RoleCall Terms of Service
Effective Date: April 14, 2026 Last Updated: April 14, 2026
Welcome to RoleCall ("RoleCall," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by RoleCall Studios LLC. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and RoleCall Studios LLC governing your use of the RoleCall platform at rolecallstudios.com (the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
ARBITRATION NOTICE: Except for certain disputes described in Section 14, you agree that disputes arising under these Terms will be resolved by binding individual arbitration. You and RoleCall each waive the right to a trial by jury or to participate in any class action. You may opt out of arbitration within 30 days of creating your account (see Section 14.8).
AI DISCLOSURE (SB 243 Compliance): RoleCall is an AI-powered platform. All characters on RoleCall are AI-generated fiction. You are interacting with artificial intelligence, not real people. No AI-generated response should be interpreted as coming from a human being.
EARLY ACCESS NOTICE: RoleCall is in active development. Features may be added, changed, or removed. Service interruptions may occur. No uptime guarantees are provided.
RoleCall is an interactive fiction SaaS — a character studio and scene engine for writing alongside AI. Because the Service integrates with third-party AI providers (BYOK) and bundled in-house models through our partner NanoGPT, outputs can include content unsuitable for minors. You must be at least 18 years old to use this Service.
1. Definitions

1.3. "Content" or "User Content" means any material you upload, create, or manage through the Service, including character cards, lorebooks, presets, personas, and prompts.
1.4. "BYOK" (Bring Your Own Key) means the functionality allowing you to connect your own third-party AI provider API keys to the Service.
1.5. "Recovery Phrase" means the 12-word BIP39 mnemonic phrase used to derive your encryption key for chat data.
1.6. "Materials" means the visual interfaces, graphics, design, code, software, and all other elements of the Service provided by RoleCall. Materials does not include User Content.
1.7. "Library" means your personal collection of Content within the Service.

2. Eligibility
2.1. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher, to use the Service.
2.2. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement. Providing false information about your age is a violation of these Terms and grounds for immediate account termination.
2.3. You represent that you have not previously been banned or removed from the Service.
2.4. You represent that your use of the Service complies with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction.
2.5. Minors are strictly prohibited from using RoleCall under any circumstances.
3. Account Registration and Security
3.1. Account Creation. To access the Service, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate information during registration and keep it up to date.
3.2. One Account Per Person. You may not create or maintain multiple accounts. Discovery of duplicate accounts may result in termination of all associated accounts.
3.3. No Account Sharing. Your account is personal to you. You may not share login credentials. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
3.4. Security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and Recovery Phrase. Notify us immediately at boxoffice@rolecallstudios.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
3.5. Account Deletion. To delete your account, email boxoffice@rolecallstudios.com. Upon request, we will delete your account and associated data, subject to the following:
- Encrypted chat data will be permanently deleted. Since we cannot read encrypted data, we cannot provide exports after deletion.
- Forks of your content already created by other users remain in their libraries with attribution anonymized to "Deleted User."
- Group chat messages will be anonymized to preserve conversation continuity.
- Data required to be retained by law will be retained as required.
4. Description of Service
4.1. RoleCall is an AI-powered interactive fiction SaaS — a character studio and scene engine for writing alongside AI. The Service provides:
- Access to AI models for interactive fiction and collaborative storytelling
- Tools for creating and managing characters, presets, lorebooks, personas, and prompts

4.2. RoleCall is a private scene engine for writing and interacting with character-driven fiction. Content creation and public sharing are available through our companion platform, Plotlight Studios, at plotlightstudios.com.
4.3. RoleCall is in active development. Features listed above may not all be available at any given time. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service without prior notice.
5. Payment Terms
5.1. Subscription. Access to RoleCall requires an active subscription. Subscription plans, pricing, and included features are described on our pricing page.
5.2. Billing. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, depending on your plan). By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method at the start of each billing period.
5.3. Payment Processing. Payments are processed by third-party payment providers. We do not store credit card numbers or full payment details on our servers. We retain transaction records (amount, date, subscription status) for accounting purposes.
5.4. Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access to the Service until the end of the paid period.
5.5. Refunds. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact boxoffice@rolecallstudios.com for refund requests.
5.6. Price Changes. We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days notice. Price changes take effect at the start of your next billing period following the notice.
6. Prohibited Content and Conduct
6.1. Zero Tolerance
The following results in immediate permanent account termination. Where required by law, we will report violations to the appropriate authorities.
6.1.1. Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Any sexual, romantic, or suggestive content involving minors — real, fictional, or AI-generated — regardless of the privacy of the content. This applies to all content on the platform, including private libraries and encrypted chat sessions. While we cannot read encrypted chat data, any CSAM discovered through reporting, investigation, or other means will result in immediate termination and reporting to NCMEC and law enforcement. Zero tolerance. No appeals.
6.1.2. Photorealistic Sexual Imagery of Minors. Any AI-generated or manipulated photorealistic imagery depicting minors in sexual situations.
6.2. Prohibited Conduct
By using the Service, you agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Harass, threaten, bully, stalk, or otherwise harm any other user
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service except as expressly permitted
- Interfere with security features, reverse engineer, or attempt to discover source code
- Upload viruses, malware, or other malicious code
- Create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions or bans
- Sell, transfer, or resell access to the Service or your account
- Abuse third-party AI provider services through the BYOK feature in ways that violate those providers' terms
- Attempt to decrypt, access, or tamper with other users' encrypted data
- Use the Service to generate content that violates applicable law
- Attempt any of the above or assist others in doing so
6.3. Content Moderation
Due to end-to-end encryption, we cannot read or monitor the content of your private chat sessions. We do not perform surveillance of encrypted communications. However, we may take action on content in your Library or account based on reports from other users, law enforcement requests, or other information that comes to our attention.
6.4. Reporting
To report abuse or violations, use the in-platform reporting system or email boxoffice@rolecallstudios.com.
7. User Content and Intellectual Property
7.1. Your Ownership
You retain full ownership of all Content you create and upload to RoleCall. We do not claim ownership of your characters, lorebooks, presets, personas, prompts, stories, or any other creative work.
7.2. License to RoleCall
By uploading Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, and process your Content as necessary to operate the Service. This license is limited to the technical operations required to provide the Service to you.
This license is revocable: deleting your Content ends this license, subject to Section 3.5.
7.3. Forking
Content you have forked from other platforms or services may be subject to those platforms' terms of use. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use forked content.
7.4. Content Representations
By uploading Content, you represent that:
- You are the creator or have the necessary rights and permissions to use it.
- Your Content does not infringe any third-party rights.
- Your Content does not violate applicable law.
7.5. AI Output Disclaimer
AI responses on RoleCall are produced by third-party AI models. AI output may be inaccurate, biased, inappropriate, or offensive. AI-generated content:
- Does not represent the views, opinions, or endorsement of RoleCall
- Should not be relied upon as factual information
- Does not constitute professional, legal, medical, financial, or therapeutic advice
- Is generated by statistical models and may produce harmful or nonsensical output
You use AI features at your own risk and discretion.
8. Chat Data and Encryption
8.1. End-to-End Encryption
Your chat messages are encrypted using AES-256-GCM encryption. The encryption key is derived from your 12-word Recovery Phrase using the BIP39 standard. This means:
- Messages are encrypted on your device before being sent to our servers.
- We store only encrypted data. We cannot read your chat content.
- Only you can decrypt your messages using your Recovery Phrase.
8.2. What Is NOT End-to-End Encrypted
The following data is stored server-side and is not protected by your Recovery Phrase:
- Chat summaries are stored in a form accessible to the server to enable AI context features.
- Group chat messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Messages are obfuscated in transit and storage but should not be considered private in the same way as one-on-one chat sessions.
- Metadata such as timestamps, character IDs, and chat session IDs.
8.3. API Key Encryption
If you save a third-party API key through BYOK, it is encrypted at rest using a key derived from your Recovery Phrase. We cannot decrypt your stored API keys without your Recovery Phrase.
8.4. Recovery Phrase Responsibility
Your Recovery Phrase is shown to you once during setup. You are responsible for storing it securely.
- We cannot recover your Recovery Phrase if you lose it. This is by design.
- If you lose your Recovery Phrase, your encrypted chat history and saved API keys cannot be recovered by anyone.
- You can generate a new Recovery Phrase and continue using the Service, but you will start with fresh chat history.
- Losing your Recovery Phrase does not affect your account, characters, library content, or other non-encrypted data.
9. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
9.1. RoleCall allows you to connect third-party AI provider API keys (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others) to use with the Service.
9.2. Third-Party Terms Apply. When you use BYOK, your interactions with third-party AI providers are governed by those providers' terms of service and privacy policies. Data sent to providers (including message content) is subject to their data handling practices. RoleCall is not responsible for how third-party providers process your data.
9.3. Your Responsibility. You are solely responsible for:
- Any charges incurred on your third-party API keys
- Compliance with your provider's terms of service
- The security of your API keys
9.4. No Warranty. RoleCall provides no warranty regarding BYOK availability, functionality, or compatibility with any specific provider.
10. Copyright and DMCA
10.1. RoleCall respects intellectual property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. 512).
10.2. DMCA Notifications. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a written notification to our designated agent at boxoffice@rolecallstudios.com with the subject line "DMCA Notification." Your notice must include:
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
- A description of where the allegedly infringing material is located on the Service
- Your contact information (name, address, email, phone number)
- A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is unauthorized
- A statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner
- Your physical or electronic signature
10.3. Counter-Notifications. If you believe your content was wrongfully removed, you may submit a counter-notification including your signature, identification of the removed material, a statement under penalty of perjury that removal was in error, and your consent to jurisdiction.
10.4. Repeat Infringers. Accounts with two or more valid DMCA strikes may be permanently terminated.
11. Platform Intellectual Property
11.1. The Service and all Materials are owned by RoleCall Studios LLC or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.
11.2. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
11.3. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works based on the Materials without our prior written consent.
12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
12.1. "As Is" Service
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
12.2. Early Access
RoleCall is in active development. The Service may contain bugs, errors, and other problems. Features may change or be removed. We do not guarantee uptime, availability, or that the Service will meet your needs.
12.3. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ROLECALL STUDIOS LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100) OR (B) THE AMOUNTS PAID BY YOU TO ROLECALL IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
12.4. Essential Basis
The limitations in this section are an essential part of the agreement between you and RoleCall Studios LLC. They apply even if any limited remedy fails of its essential purpose. Each limitation is severable and independent.
13. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration
13.1. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
13.2. Binding Arbitration
Except as described in Section 13.3, you and RoleCall agree that all disputes arising under these Terms or relating to the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the Commercial Dispute Resolution Procedures of the American Arbitration Association ("AAA"). AAA Rules are available at www.adr.org.
YOU AND ROLECALL EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY OR TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION.
13.3. Exceptions
Either party may: (a) bring an individual action in small claims court; (b) pursue enforcement through applicable government agencies; (c) seek injunctive relief in court; or (d) file suit to address intellectual property infringement.
13.4. Pre-Arbitration Notice
Before initiating arbitration, you must send a written notice to boxoffice@rolecallstudios.com describing the dispute and the relief sought. Both parties will attempt to resolve the dispute in good faith for at least 30 days before commencing arbitration.
13.5. Class Action Waiver
YOU AND ROLECALL AGREE THAT DISPUTES WILL BE RESOLVED ONLY ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. NEITHER PARTY MAY BRING CLAIMS AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING.
13.6. Jury Trial Waiver
YOU AND ROLECALL WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL.
13.7. Costs
If your claim is for $10,000 or less, RoleCall Studios LLC will reimburse your AAA filing fee if the arbitrator finds in your favor. Each party bears its own attorneys' fees unless the arbitrator awards fees to the prevailing party under applicable law.
13.8. Opt-Out
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by sending written notice to boxoffice@rolecallstudios.com within 30 days of creating your account. Your notice must include your name, account email, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration. If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in the judicial district of New Jersey.
13.9. Changes to Arbitration Provision
If we make a substantive change to this arbitration provision, you may reject the change by notifying us in writing within 30 days. If you reject the change, the prior version of this arbitration provision will continue to apply to you.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless RoleCall Studios LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights, including AI provider terms of service
- Content you upload, create, or share through the Service
- Your use of BYOK features and third-party API keys
We may, at our expense, assume exclusive defense of any matter subject to indemnification by you, and you agree to cooperate with that defense.

15.3. Effect of Termination
Upon termination: (a) your license to use the Service ends immediately; (b) you lose access to your account and encrypted data; (c) we have no obligation to retain your data except as required by law or described in Section 3.5.
15.4. Survival
Sections 7 (Content and IP), 11 (Platform IP), 12 (Disclaimers and Liability), 13 (Dispute Resolution), 14 (Indemnification), and 16 (General Provisions) survive termination.
